How to you get Hepatitis C?

I've been in AA about 10 years now. Its amazing how many people within the organization have Hepatitis C. I always thought the C stood for Chemical Hepatitis that you got from too much alcohol. Now I'm hearing its infectious. How careful should I be around my friends? Can I kiss them on the mouth if its just a friendly hello kind of kiss?
