Something is sticking out of my suture area.?

Hip surgery. I have a 2 inch scar that's finally mostly healed. Except something is sticking out at one end. It looks like string. Lots of fibers making it up. I attempted to pull it out but it's really stuck. The suture area is hard and raised. Operation was over 5 weeks ago. I'm guessing that is something that isn't going to dissolve on its own. So what is it? Is this normal? And is it normal to have such a raised hard area so long after surgery? Thank you.
